Course Description : Conspiracy Theories Throughout History is a one-semester elective course offered at ALJ. Conspiracy thinking has been a part of American society from the colonial period through the present day. This course will explore a sample of those theories in United States history as well as older/global, monster/ animal, and reality conspiracy theories. Though such theories are interesting and thought provoking this course will not be about learning the unsubstantiated facts that surround these views. Instead we will analyze the history, reasoning, arguments and rhetoric as well as evaluate sources surrounding these theories. Students will explore: Why do these theories exist? Why are people attracted to them? What do they reveal about society and culture?
